"Another ‘being,’ another ‘world’— Do we see it?"

As a young child, Aster Patel came with her parents to live at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, India. She studied at the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education, completing higher courses in philosophy and integral psychology

She attended the Sorbonne at the University of Paris where she received a Ph.D. for her thesis, “A Comparative Study of the Philosophies of Sri Aurobindo and Henri Bergson.”

Aster has taught for many years at the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education in Pondicherry and held the Sri Aurobindo Chair of Philosophy at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. In 2005, she received the Sri Aurobindo Puraskar award.

For nearly four decades, Aster has been engaged in the experiment of Auroville, holding responsibilities in the International Zone at the Centre for Research in Indian Culture and the Centre of Indian Studies in Bharat Nivas. She is also a member of the governing board of the Auroville Foundation

Aster has participated in numerous seminars and conferences at centres and universities in India as well as in Paris, New York, at UNESCO and the United Nations, and other organizations in the U.S. She was a keynote speaker at AUM 2003, AUM 2005, and AUM 2006.

Aster has also written and published papers in philosophy, integral psychology, education, and yoga. In 2006, she published a collection of papers and graphics under the title The Presence of Time.
