The Foundation for World Education
and
the Sri Aurobindo Ashram
Throughout our years of funding history, the board of the Foundation
for World Education (FWE) has always made an effort to invite proposals
from the Sri Aurobindo Ashram departments. Peter Heehs from the
Ashram Archives has taken time to communicate with FWE. He sums
up our work as follows:
"The Foundation for World Education has funded several projects
proposed by the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Archives, the department of
the Ashram concerned with the preservation and publication of the
papers of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.
"This funding has included a matching grant to enable a member
of the Archives to attend a course in literary theory at Dartmouth
College (1993), a grant enabling another member to attend a preservation
workshop at the Library of Congress (1994), a grant enabling the
same member to receive training at Information Conservation, Inc.,
a North Carolina organization that specialises in preservation of
library materials (1996), and a matching grant (with Judy Segal
Trust, England) to enable Mary Studt, a preservation professional
from Virginia, to visit the Archives to evaluate its practices and
to provide training."
At the same time the board has been able to assist in funding the
Ashram boarding expansion and the Ashram school's computer lab.
The total amount of requests over the last 15 years from Ashram
related projects has been about $36,000.
