The Foundation for World Education
and U.S. centers
Over the past 15 years, the Foundation for World Education (FWE)
has supported the development of Sri Aurobindo centers in the United
States. In the beginning, the Sri Aurobindo Association and Auroville
International USA made annual requests for operating expenses in
order to build their capacity to reach out to Sri Aurobindo devotees
nationwide.
FWE has played a role in supporting the All USA Meeting (AUM) and
conferences in Crestone, Colorado sponsored by the Sri Aurobindo
Learning Center. FWE has also supported the publication of Collaboration,
the development of communication via the Internet, and special
one-time conferences on cellular evolution (San Francisco), world
religions (Chicago), and psychology (Matagiri Sri Aurobindo Center,
Mt. Tremper, New York).
The East-West Cultural Center in Los Angeles has organized a number
of tours of speakers from the Sri Aurobindo Ashram among interested
centers and groups in the U.S. Our support for these activities
has added up to nearly $150,000 over the years.
Publication of works such as Mother's Agenda, Mother's Auroville
Messages, and George Van Vrekham's Beyond Man, and republication
of The Essential Aurobindo and The Integral Yoga: Sri
Aurobindo's Teaching and Method of Practice have been made possible
through the FWE. About $125,000 has been expended on various periodicals
and books since the beginning of our funding history. The board
continues to support publication of work related to Sri Aurobindo's
yoga, as it has historically been the starting point for many devotees
involvement in the yoga in the United States.
With the creation of the Sri Aurobindo Integral Yoga website (http://www.miraura.org),
the possibilities of coordinating, communicating, and reaching out
to others is only beginning to tap the base upon which we are now
building the organizations of the future.
