Today, Auroville is an expanding community of about 1,500 people from India and more than 30 other countries.

A Vision of Hope for India and the World

Auroville's future has to be secured. At present, Auroville's development is being threatened by rapidly escalating land prices, and increasing real estate speculation on the Auroville plateau. Purchase of the remaining land is urgently needed to allow for coherent development of the city and its infrastructure to create, together with the local population, a sustainable bioregion in harmony with the Earth.

A Laboratory for a Sustainable Planet

Auroville's pioneering efforts are many: wasteland reclamation; soil and water conservation, reforestation, producing food without pesticides, reintroducing sustainable agriculture, solar electric, wind pump, passive solar and biogas technologies, training, consulting, design, supervision, and construction of cost effective building technologies, benefiting local villagers with cooperation in sustainable agriculture, health care, community development, education and sports programs.
