YOUR HELP IS URGENTLY NEEDED!The present community of Auroville consists of some 80 settlements of varying sizes, established on about 2,800 acres of Auroville land interspersed with village land over an area of 20 km2. The projected city for 50,000 people will radiate out from the central Matrimandir gardens in 4 zones: International, Cultural, Residential and Industrial. A forested area, the Green Belt, will eventually surround the entire city area. Auroville's future has to be secured... At present, Auroville's development according to its original plans is being threatened by rapidly escalating land prices, and increasing real estate speculation on the Auroville plateau. Auroville's work is not confined to meeting the needs of the future township, or those of the wider bioregion. Auroville sees itself as a place of research and experimentation for the world at large. Therefore, we appeal for help from all those, who recognize the importance of Auroville as a hopeful vision for India and the world, as a living laboratory for a sustainable planet, and as a place that, according to its Charter, "does not belong to anybody in particular but to humanity as a whole". This presentation on Auroville will be conducted by Guy Ryckaert and Shivaya, long time residents of Auroville. |
