AUM Presenter:
David Fiedler
David Fiedler, initiator of the Art Of Living practice, was introduced
to the Integral Yoga during a visit to New Delhi in 1993. He subsequently
returned to India later that year and spent several months under the tutelage
of Dr. Shiv Das, a mature sadhak affiliated with the Sri Aurobindo Ashram,
Delhi Branch. It was at the latter's encouragement that David began
to introduce aspects of the Integral Yoga to Americans, initially in Austin,
Texas, and currently in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he has begun a center named
'GNOSIS: Knowledge in Action'. His wife, Mara Helmuth, is a composer
specializing in computer music, and teaches at the University of Cincinnati
College-Conservatory of Music.
The Art Of Living: an Exercise in a Collective Yoga
"You walk into a room. On the floor is a black disc with an image
of the sun painted in the middle. You find a seat in the circle around
the disc. Several others are already present, a few continue to wander
in. The lighting is soft, not too dim. Some informal
conversation is taking place, questions being asked about the format
of tonight's practice session. An exercise in a collective
yoga -- what can this mean? We are about to find out..."
And so begins a meeting in the Art Of Living format, where traditional
yogic practices of breath and meditation are combined with a group practice
of seeing, listening, speaking
and interacting...from within. Cherishing and sharing effulgencesof
the sacred flame; practicing together we reinforce our abilities tobe this
way.
Note: due to the participatory nature of this session, attendance
will be limited to 15.
